Anime Girl Throwing Things refers to a viral anime-style artwork of a woman throwing an energy drink can at the viewer. Created in July 2020 by artist @doshimash0, the artwork gained popularity as an exploitable, with users replacing the can with other objects.

Origin

On July 24th, 2020, artist @doshimash0 (どうしま) tweeted[1] a humorous anime-style artwork of a woman throwing an energy drink can towards the viewer. The design of the can parodied the design of the Monster energy drink, with the name of the drink altered to "Doshimash Energy" and the letter "M" on the design replaced with "D." The image (shown below) received over 8,000 retweets and 47,800 likes in four months.



Spread

On the same day, Twitter[2] user @k81122 and Imgur[3] user DistortionWorldGod posted the earliest humorous derivative images based on the artwork (shown below, left and right).

The image did not further use in memes until on October 16th, 2020, Redditor[4] Isterbollen posted the earliest found meme in which the can thrown by the woman was replaced by another object (shown below, left). The post received nearly 100 upvotes in /r/okpolarnbaka subreddit. On October 22nd, 2020, Twitter[5] user @gaynerical posted a Fat Rat Being Grabbed meme based on the image, gaining 40 retweets and 150 likes (shown below, right).

The image received viral spread in the following days, with reposts and minor edits uploaded on Twitter,[6] Reddit and other sites. For example, on October 24th, Redditor[7] ilikeburritosok posted an ironic image macro based on the image to /r/okbuddybaka subreddit, where it gained over 3,800 upvotes in ten days. On October 28th, 2020, the official Facebook[8] page of Know Your Meme website reposted @gaynerical's image, with the post gaining over 5,400 reactions and 1,700 shares.

Following the viral spread of the Fat Rat Being Grabbed edit, the image further gained popularity as an exploitable, with versions of the meme appearing on Reddit, Facebook, iFunny and other websites in the following week.

Plague Be Upon Ye

Plague Be Upon Ye is a catchphrase often used to accompany images of various characters throwing objects at the viewer. Originating from a viral photoshop of Eminem throwing a fat rat captioned in this fashion, the image macro series gained popularity in October 2020 and has been used as a template for redraws.

Think Fast, Chucklenuts

Think Fast, Chucklenuts is a catchphrase spoken by the Scout in Team Fortress 2 upon stunning an enemy. The phrase has been used in video edits and memes throughout the 2010s, significantly increasing in popularity in 2020 along with a version where Scout says the phrase then a flashbang grenade goes of, a derivative of Anime Girl Throwing Things meme format.
