US Ukraine Embassy in Kyiv Twitter Meme in Tweet.

The United States embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine shared a meme today on Twitter despite rising tensions in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

After Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops into eastern Ukraine on Monday, U.S. President Joe Biden and other world leaders like U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson have reacted accordingly, denouncing Putin's claims that parts of eastern Ukraine are inherently Russian. President Biden even confirmed that there would be "severe costs" if Russia invaded Ukraine.

Places in the country occupied by the U.S. and its allies are undergoing increasing pressure within the region, forcing the U.S. embassy in Kyiv to evacuate its premises on January 24th.

It surprised many then when the official Twitter account of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv shared a meme yesterday, February 22nd, depicting Kyiv versus Moscow's industrial and architectural progressions from the years 998 to 1108. Of course, the meme favors Ukraine's development over time, labeling it as more culturally advanced in comparison.

The tweet inspired multiple reactions, accumulating roughly 130,000 likes in less than 24 hours. Twitter users started to post memes about the development, as well as uploading screenshots to other platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
