Yesterday on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Paris Hilton was one of the show's guests and she decided to use her brief minutes to chit chat about NFTs with fellow Bored Ape Yacht Club owner Jimmy Fallon. After they babbled about their shared interest, she unveiled her newest NFT collection, gifting one to Fallon and every member of his studio audience.

As the culture inches closer to cryptocurrency's mainstream appeal, this display of unchecked crypto cringe had many online making "Paris Hilton NFTs" in their own memes following the broadcast.

As stated, Hilton took the time in her segment to talk about her own, upcoming NFT project, made in conjunction with the digital collectibles firm Super Plastic. She emphasized the most important NFT she was minting, appropriately titled "My Forever Fairytale," being a collage of all her "memories."

A photo of her standing with the piece was shown to the audience, prompting Fallon to compliment her, earnestly saying, "This is big. I think people are gonna love this." The audience clapped accordingly and Hilton was so moved in the moment that she told Fallon he would be gifted the first copy. As the audience cheered and roared, Hilton then said she was giving an NFT to everyone in attendance.

Of course, when the clip was posted to Twitter last night, several people online started to groan about another celebrity buying into the crypto art craze almost immediately. Users started replying with withered Wojaks, among other reaction images of despair. But before they could even swallow the aforementioned clip, another snippet from Hilton's segment surfaced that would top the cringe already palpable to many.

In the middle of her segment, Hilton and Fallon discussed the nuances of owning Bored Ape NFTs. Fallon admitted that Hilton taught him what they were, but Hilton only bought her own Ape after Fallon did so. They continued to throw kindnesses at each other, like when Fallon said to her, "I bought an Ape," only for her to reply, "I got an Ape too," as if it was a proper noun they'd always known. Fallon then showed the audience both of their Apes as they tried to explain to them the reasoning for their likeness. Fallon said about his own, "It reminded me of me a little bit because I wear striped shirts."

It appeared as though the audience was riveted by the commentary and enjoyed watching them talk about pictures of cartoon apes, but maybe they were just as itchy and animated as the rest of Twitter that night, who started posting tweets and memes rapidly in reaction to the interview. Some users expressed that they were amazed at how fast celebrities like Hilton and Fallon could kill what little clout the Bored Apes had. It also brought up the discussion again about the "simulation glitching," citing the segment as evidence.

It should be noted, however, that Hilton has been active in the NFT community since April last year when she minted two NFTs called “Hummingbird in my metaverse” and “Legend of love,” which each sold out, earning her roughly $220,000 in sales.

As Fallon stated, she was also listed in Fortune's Top 50 Most Influential People In NFTs. Maybe she's onto something, or maybe the 2000s icon has less to offer than she might want to allude to. Even though it might not be as cringeworthy in the eyes of many as Lindsay Lohan's Furry NFT, this latest public BAYC discussion is definitely something to look out for in memes going forward.
