NFT Owners Can Now Opt In To Hexagonal Profile Pictures On Twitter, Leading To A Slew Of Mocking Memes

Those Twitter profiles with algorithmically generated pictures of apes and lions are about to get even more, "unique," as Twitter has rolled out a new feature that offers NFT owners to the chance to make their beloved JPEGs hexagonal shaped.

According to Twitter, the "NFT Profile Picture" feature was widely requested by the crypto community. To use the feature, you need to be a part of Twitter's premium subscription service, Twitter Blue and own an NFT. By connecting your account to your NFT wallet, you can select one of your NFTs to use as your profile picture. Crop it, and there you have your new hexagonal NFT PFP.

It's unclear why NFT owners were so keen on making their avatars even more distinguished (perhaps to avoid the dreaded right-click?) and why Twitter chose the hexagon shape to further otherize what is already one of the most divisive subgroups on the platform. Regardless, a mere search of the word hexagon on Twitter will reveal the general tenor of discussion around this new feature.

Fortunately for the haters, independent developers have already been working on browser extensions that will automatically block Twitter users with an NFT avatar. Perhaps the hexagons will make the process easier.
