Rick has his hands on his head as Cornvelious Daniel eats chicken nuggets.

Who says a cartoon can't change the world?

This year’s surprise season premiere of Rick and Morty already had a lot going for it. Aside from the intense fandom and anticipation already built up around the show, Rick and Morty‘s sudden return helped raise its popularity to new heights. But what really captured the public’s imagination wasn’t the interdimensional travel or even the meta-commentary on the havoc Rick and Morty bring to their own universe. No, people just wanted to try some promotional dipping sauce from 1998.

McDonald's short-lived, but apparently much-beloved, Szechuan sauce it introduced as tie-in promotion for Disney's 1998 film Mulan went from mid-90s obscurity to the world most sought-after condiment over night. Throughout the next few months, there have been rumblings of a szechuan sauce resurrection. YouTubers made home version, McDonald's made a batch for the Rick and Morty crew, one poor bastard named Deadmau5 bought the sauce for an undisclosed amount, after a $4,000 eBay bid fell through. What can you say? Cartoons make everything seem delicious.

Today, McDonald's announced that the company would be bringing back its infamous Szechuan sauce for one day only on October 7th. Not everyone's getting some, though. According to the statement released by the fast-food behemoth / that the sauce is "a one-time only, limited-edition, run" and would only be available in select restaurants.

As per the episode, "The Rickshank Rickdemption," Rick started his mastery of interdimensional travel so that he could one day go back in time and pick up a 20-piece with some of that good sauce. This promotion requires no time travel, but rather only an interest in Buttermilk Crispy Tenders, which is why McDonald's suggest you "get obsauced" with this special condiment from a cartoon. Sorry, Mulan.

If you’re interested in finally trying the sauce that launched a thousand memes, head on over to McDonald’s website for more details.
