YouTube has confirmed that the YouTube Rewind video, which YouTube had put out annually its inception in order to celebrate the top trends and creators of the platform, will never happen again.

In an exclusive report from Tubefilter, YouTube acknowledged that the Rewind videos put out by creators makes an "official" YouTube Rewind unnecessary.

"Since Rewind started in 2011, we have seen creators from MrBeast [54 million views], elrubiusOMG, and Slayy Point, to so many more, create their own end-of-year videos, uniquely capturing the year from each of their perspectives," said YouTube. YouTube will not fund any creator's Rewind video but will promote such videos on their social channels.

While intended to be a celebration of creators and trends on the platform, the Rewind video was more often an annual firestorm of controversy, as it would inevitably omit key creators or a key trend. It didn't help that it was often the source of cringe overload, particularly its 2018 iteration, which looked incredibly expensive yet became the most disliked video on all of YouTube.

Following the disastrous video, YouTube put out a far-cheaper (and less-interesting) video-listicle style in 2019 and forewent a Rewind altogether in 2020 due to how much that year, in a word, sucked.
