Shocking Development! Viral Chucky The Doll Subway Video Is A Prank

Chucky the doll is a horror icon. Possessed by the soul of murderer Charles Lee Ray, Chucky slashed his way through several movies and reboots over the last 30-some-odd years. His latest, a viral video in which he attacks a woman on the subway, may be his most convincing work, but it's still only a movie.

Earlier this week, the popular Instagram account @subwaycreatures shared a clip of a little person in a Chucky costume straight from the Uncanny Valley attacking a woman on a New York City subway. Within two days, the video amassed a healthy 122,000 likes and roughly 4,000 comments of people appreciating the lack of help this woman is receiving.

The thing is, New Yorkers know a fake when they see one. That's not actually Chucky, the Chucky voiced by Brad Douriff, who has entertained us all these years. This is a fake, an imposter. To put it another way, this Chucky is sus.

Well, that New York instinct turned out correct. This isn't actually Chucky at all, but rather an actor and comedian named Miguel. A terrified onlooker didn't film the incident either. Brooklyn filmmaker Rodrigo Valencia was behind the camera.

Speaking to the Daily Dot, Miguel says that the video was something of a "social experiment." Would someone help a woman being attacked by a murderous doll brought to life by black magic? Miguel and Valencia chose to keep the woman maskless to see if anyone would actually come to her aid. They didn't.

"As expected, no one helped. Instead, they decided to record," Miguel said. "We chose for Sara not to wear a mask to see if that would affect people helping her out in this situation."

According to Miguel, they tried the experiment on other subways to similar results. Apparently, you can't trick New Yorkers into thinking Chucky is real.

So to all the people out there who thought their dream of a real live Chucky was coming true, we apologize for the bad news. For the rest of us, who do not want a Chucky running around reality, this is very, very good news.
