Optimists hoping 2021 will be better than 2020 were dealt a heavy blow this morning when Paramount Pictures released a teaser promoting a live-action adaptation of Clifford the Big Red Dog.

In just twenty seconds, Paramount elicits warm feelings and genuine fear, first introducing some friendly dogs before panning out to reveal a big red monstrosity that looks nothing like the friendly fella from the acclaimed children's book series.

Adapting a 2D character to the 3D world is a risky business, as proven by a certain blue-haired fiasco from yesteryear, and while the backlash to Clifford wasn't of Sonic the Hedgehog proportions, critics on Twitter were still freaked out by the CGI, washed-out red dog that's going to be Clifford.

For all the freaking out, there was also a strong contingency of people defending Paramount's interpretation of Clifford.

There was also this fun fact shared about Clifford, which doesn't have anything to do with the new trailer but is interesting nonetheless:

The upcoming film will be helmed by Wild Hogs director Walt Becker and star John Cleese, Jack Whitehall, Kenan Thompson, Rosie Perez, and Sienna Guillory.

I-I don't get this controversy?

I mean the render for Clifford isn't really bad as he does look like a big red dog. And unlike the realistic CGI from say The Lion King, he is very expressive and actually looks adorable.

Seems like people are finding something to complain.
