Richard Nixon, dead for almost 30 years, is having a moment in the meme spotlight. History buffs online noticed that the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump’s resort in Florida, coincidentally occurred on the same day Richard Nixon announced his resignation as President in 1974.

Donald Trump is under investigation for several things, but most sources seem to agree the FBI raid relates to his handling of classified documents and government secrets. Allegedly, Trump took a lot of important documents with him to Mar-a-Lago after leaving office. The FBI then got permission from a federal judge to go look for them yesterday.

Richard Nixon’s private residence was never raided by the FBI, but the nail in the coffin of his presidency was a bunch of classified documents he had to hand over to investigators — known as the White House tapes, which infamously recorded Nixon and his aides scheming and swearing.

Many on platforms like Twitter took the coincidence of the anniversary to compare Trump and Nixon.

Some users also pointed out how they buried their loved ones.

A photo of the two men meeting back in the day circulated widely online amid the discourse surrounding the Mar-a-Lago raid.

Several Twitter users joked about Nixon’s strange habits and personality, which have notoriously lived on nearly 40 years after his presidency.

Some supporters of the former President, however, dismissed the coincidence as meaningless.

The trauma of Watergate and other events of the 1970s like the war in Vietnam and "stagflation" continue to play out in the modern day, with many historians blaming the misdeeds of the Nixon administration for the widespread distrust of government in the United States.
