The Roblox Death Sound, best known to the wider internet community as "Oof," is no more. The gaming platform quietly announced yesterday that the iconic "death" sound that has been a staple of the platform and memes since the beta in 2005 has been scrubbed from Roblox due to licensing issues.


While the specifics of what happened with Roblox and its iconic death noise are unclear, some, such as Kotaku, have speculated that a deal Roblox made with Tommy Tallarico (the creator of the sound) has expired or gone sour. Tallarico created the sound for the 2000 FPS Messiah, and entered an agreement with Roblox that any Roblox creator who wanted to use the sound effect would have to pay $1.

The loss of "Oof" was mourned by many on social media, and some campaigned to save it, albeit somewhat sarcastically.
