Melania and Barron Trump

Barron Trump, the 14-year-old son of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, contracted COVID-19 alongside his mother and father, according to a blog post from Melania.

The blog post details her experience with the illness, and she wrote that while Barron initially tested negative, further tests revealed he had contracted the virus. "My fear came true when he was tested again and it came up positive," she wrote. "Luckily he is a strong teenager and exhibited no symptoms. In one way I was glad the three of us went through this at the same time so we could take care of one another and spend time together. He has since tested negative."

After Melania's post, the President riffed on Barron's illness at a campaign rally in Iowa, using his son as an example of how young people generally fare better with COVID-19.

"He had the 'corona-19.' The 'China virus.' It's got 21 different names. I could go over it. But to me, corona means Italy. China is China. And it came from China. So he had the China virus. Right?" Trump went on to say that Barron is "beautiful and free."

Barron has become an online icon to teens who are otherwise unsympathetic to the Trump administration. In June of this year, an online campaign to "Save Barron Trump" started after the boy's Roblox account was allegedly discovered, though it turned out not to be him.
