Thursday evening proved an evening with too much news frankly to bear. On top of the 2020 United States Election, Vladimir Putin rumored to be resigning, and Supernatural possibly making Destiel canon, nu-metal stalwarts System of a Down released new music for the first time in fifteen years.

The group hasn't released music since 2005's Hypnotize, as creative and personality differences ultimately drove the group's members apart. The two new tracks they dropped last night, "Protect the Land" and "Genocidal Humanoidz," were released to raise money for the Armenia Fund, which will benefit those in need in Artsakh and Armenia after fighting broke out between Armenia and Azerbaijan in late October.

“I texted [the guys], ‘No matter how we feel about each other, no matter what issues linger from the past, we need to put them aside because this is bigger than System Of A Down and bigger than all of us,” said Daron Malakian, who wrote and produced the songs. “We need to do something to support our people.”

The songs, "Protect The Land" and "Genocidal Humanoidz" sound like two different eras from System of a Down, with "Protect the Land" falling more in line with Hypnotize's power-ballad tracks and "Genocidal Humanoidz" recalling the weirder side of System Of A Down.

The new tracks were a shock to users, who were mostly thrilled to hear from the group.

As of November 6th, System of a Down's fundraiser has raised over $79,000.
