It's no exaggeration to say that the Gamestop stock saga of the past few weeks is the epitome of things escalating quickly. Just ten days ago, "Gamestop" started trending on Twitter. Now, after everyone and their mother was forced to become a stonks expert to understand the wild financial revolution that was taking place last week, the big screen has taken notice.
On Monday, Deadline reported that Netflix had nearly completed a deal to produce a movie about the saga. Mark Boal, writer of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, was named as a writer and actor Noah Centineo is attached in a "major" role.
MGM has also landed rights to a potential film about the Gamestop chaos. They have purchased the rights to a book by Ben Mezrich tentatively titled The Antisocial Network, which would chronicle the stock market craziness. Mezrich is the writer of The Accidental Billionaires, which was, in turn, adapted into The Social Network. Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss will produce the film under their Winklevoss banner.
It appears the MGM development may not be all that surprising, at least in the eyes of one Twitter user who basically called it three days before the news.

This isn't the first time Hollywood has run into a twin films dilemma, where two studios make very similar films about similar topics, but hey, how many of you watched both Fyre Festival docs?
