Corona Beer Halts Production

Despite the wide-spread, and allegedly false rumors that Corona beer had experienced a steep decline in sales due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, the company continued to operate as usual until this week.

As a result of the Mexican government's decision to suspend non-essential activities, much like many other municipalities around the world, Grupo Modelo, the makers of Corona, announced on Twitter that they would halt beer production in Mexico.

Owned by Anheuser-Busch, Grupo Modelo also produces Modelo and Pacifico beers in Mexico.

The government of Mexico has suspended non-essential activities in public and private sectors until April 30th. As of April 7th, the country has nearly 2,500 confirmed cases and 125 deaths.

Earlier this year, some media outlets reported a slump in sales due to an association between Corona beer and coronavirus. However, Grupo Modello's distributor Constellation Brands announced that sales increased 8.9% in the first three months of the year and 24% in the first three weeks of March, according to CNN.

The news is just hitting beer drinkers, and they are not happy about it.
