Following a steady-stream of release delays for numerous big-budget tentpole films, Marvel's Black Widow has become the latest blockbuster movie to succumb to concerns regarding the spread of coronavirus. The long-awaited first solo film for Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow character, initially intended for a May 1st release date, has been delay indefinitely.

Black Widow joins a slate of other major Disney releases, including the live-action remake of Mulan, scheduled for release at the end of March, and the already long-delayed New Mutants was slated for release in April.

Disney isn't the only studio making last-minute changes to the year's biggest releases. Universal pushed the latest Fast & Furious film, F9, to next year, while MGM and Paramount bounced the new James Bond film No Time to Die and A Quiet Place: Part 2, respectively, to a later date.

Nearly a decade in the making, Black Widow has had a storied history at Marvel. Fans have clamored for a solo film starring Johansson since Iron Man 2 rolled the character out to audiences in 2010. Variety notes that the film likely cost "somewhere between $150 million and $200 million." It's probably worth the wait, though; anything seems preferable to catching coronavirus.
