They've tried to talk about removing it for so long, but really without it what kind of criticism would even exist on the site? The like button would essentially be as worthless as the like button on Facebook, and if Twitter had one I could already imagine how poorly it might go. Downvoting comments already doesn't work on YouTube and TBH I don't even know why there is a dislike option on comments when it does nothing.
