Die! Thy End Is Now! Crush! refers to a set of catchphrases shouted by video game boss Minos Prime in the 2020 video game ULTRAKILL. Originally appearing in various memes within the ULTRAKILL community in the early 2020s, the voice lines gained more prevalence following a viral Big Shoe Lmfao meme featuring a "Candy Shop" remix of the voice lines in late 2023.

Origin

In the 2020 retro FPS video game ULTRAKILL, Minos Prime is a hidden boss found in the Prime Sanctum level SOUL SURVIVOR. Considered one of the most challenging bosses of the game, Minos Prime telegraphs the type of next attack by shouting one of several voice lines. Additionally, the boss shouts "Weak" upon falling below 50 percent health. The character is voiced by Stephan Weyte.

The lines have been used in memes within the ULTRAKILL community online since the boss was added to the game in April 2021.^[1] For example, on August 25th, 2021, Redditor nikAz_ posted a Pepe Punch meme that gained over 330 upvotes in the /r/Ultrakill^[2] subreddit in three years (shown below, left).

On April 7th, 2023, Redditor Fantasitc-Advisor-68 posted a 3D Text meme based on the line "Thy end is now." The post (shown below, right) received over 420 upvotes in the subreddit^[3] in one year.

On November 26th, 2023, YouTuber^[4] and X^[5] / Twitter user Nomerhal_ posted a 3D-animated Big Shoe LMFAO ULTRAKILL meme featuring a 50 Cent's "Candy Shop" remix of the lines. The video, created in Blender, garnered over 542,000 views on YouTube and over 440 reposts and 2,400 likes on X in six months (shown below). The Big Shoe Lmfao meme is a clip from Ludacris' 2003 song "Stand Up."

Spread

Apart from reposts,^[6] the meme did not achieve further spread until early March 2024. On March 4th, 2024, X^[7] / Twitter user @ULTRAKILLMedia posted a video caption version of the meme originally posted by user @yzispx^[8] in an unknown ULTRAKILL Discord server. The post received over 5,300 reposts and 26,000 likes in two months (shown below).

On March 5th, TikTok^[9] user @willgapill reposted the meme to the platform, where it garnered over 526,000 views and 61,200 likes in two months. In March and April 2024, multiple TikTok users posted memes based on the sound from the video. For example, a meme posted^[10] by user @nozomineon on April 11th received over 1.9 million views and 272,900 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).

The video achieved further recognition online following several viral reposts on X / Twitter and iFunny^[11][12] in April 2024, which were followed by the catchphrase appearing in more memes^[13] and Big Shoe Lmfao remixes using other voice lines being spread.^[14]
